Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, India, under 'Operation Sindoor', targeted and destroyed terrorist camps located in Pakistan. Enraged by this operation, Pakistan retaliated by launching several drones and long-range missiles at India. However, India's advanced air defense systems successfully neutralized all of Pakistan’s attempts.

On Monday, the Indian Army conducted a special demonstration to showcase how systems like the Akash missile defense system, L-70 air defense guns, and other technologies were used to protect the Golden Temple in Amritsar and other cities in Punjab from Pakistani attacks.

Pakistan’s target was the Golden Temple: How the Indian Army foiled the missile attack plot

Major General Karthik C. Seshadri, GOC of the 15 Infantry Division, revealed that Pakistan had no clear military target, but based on intelligence inputs, it was suspected that the Pakistani forces might strike Indian military bases, civilian areas, and particularly religious sites — with the Golden Temple in Amritsar being a primary target.

He stated, “We made special preparations to secure the Golden Temple and deployed an additional air defense unit. All drones and missiles launched from Pakistan were intercepted mid-air by our forces. Not a single scratch was allowed on the sacred Golden Temple.”

Major General Seshadri added that on the early morning of May 8, under the cover of darkness, Pakistan launched a large-scale attack using unmanned aerial weapons — mainly drones and missiles. However, the Indian Army was fully alert and ready. Air defense gunners successfully neutralized all incoming threats.

He further emphasized that the attack was not just aimed at military installations but was a malicious plot to provoke religious sentiments and destabilize India, which the Indian Army foiled in time.

It is noteworthy that, due to the perceived threat, for the first time in history, the lights of the Golden Temple were turned off during a mock drill, making it difficult for enemy forces to identify targets in the event of an aerial attack.

This entire incident stands as a testament to the Indian Army’s vigilance, strength, and commitment, thwarting yet another failed attempt by Pakistan — now recorded in the annals of history.
