New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Amid rising tensions in West Asia and concerns over a possible global oil crisis, speculation about a nationwide lockdown in India has resurfaced. However, there is no indication from the government that such a step is being considered at present.

The discussion gained momentum after Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the COVID period during a recent address in Parliament. His remarks about how India handled past global crises are being widely shared on social media which has led to confusion and triggered lockdown-related searches online.

The timing has also contributed to the buzz as it coincides with the anniversary of the 2020 lockdown, along with ongoing global tensions. Experts say the current situation is different as it is linked to energy supply and geopolitical issues rather than a health emergency, making a lockdown unlikely.

The government is focusing on precautionary measures such as ensuring adequate LPG supply controlling black marketing and strengthening energy resources. Officials have clarified that there is no need for panic and that a lockdown is not being planned under the current circumstances.
