PM Modi hails Vande Mataram as 'mantra of victory' in parliament speech, watch video

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On Monday, the 8th day of the winter session of the 18th Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated a discussion on 'Vande Mataram' in the Lok Sabha. On this occasion, he said that it was not just a song or a political slogan, but a symbol of the freedom struggle and a sacred struggle for the independence of the motherland. I thank everyone that we have chosen the path of a collective discussion on this important occasion. It is our good fortune to remember Vande Mataram, the mantra, the slogan that gave energy and inspiration to the country's freedom movement, and showed the path of sacrifice and penance.
PM Modi said in the Lok Sabha, “When Bankim Da composed 'Vande Mataram', it naturally became a festival of the freedom movement. Then from East to West, North to South, 'Vande Mataram' became the resolution of every Indian. Therefore, in praise of Vande Mataram, it was written that on the altar of the motherland's freedom, selfishness is sacrificed in joy. This word is 'Vande Mataram'. It is also the mantra of life and a detailed mantra of victory. This is the call of power. This is 'Vande Mataram'. Write it with hot blood, it is the pride of the brave by tearing the land of the child. This word is 'Vande Mataram'.”
Prime Minister Modi explained that "Vande Mataram" was written at a time when, following the 1857 Revolution, the British government was vigilant and implementing policies of oppression and repression at every level. At that time, a campaign was underway to instill the British national anthem "God Save the Queen" in every home. At this time, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee responded with his pen, writing "Vande Mataram," and instilling a new wave of courage and self-confidence among Indians.
"When we say 'Vande Mataram', it reminds us of the culture of the Vedic era. The Vedas say that Mata Bhumi Putro'ham Prithivya, meaning this land is my mother and I am the son of the earth. It is the modern form of this great cultural tradition.”
PM Modi clarified that Vande Mataram was not just a battle cry against the British, but a symbol of the sacred war for the liberation of the motherland. The song honors the courage and sacrifice of millions of freedom fighters who made it a part of their movement.
The Prime Minister told all MPs in the House that this occasion is without distinction between ruling party and opposition, as it is a time to acknowledge the debt of "Vande Mataram," which our freedom fighters repaid through their sacrifices. He reminded them that the democratic system and freedom that India enjoys today are the result of this movement.
Prime Minister Modi said, “This is an opportunity for all the MPs sitting in Parliament to acknowledge this debt and remember the sacred struggle that liberated our motherland.”
