PM Modi Honoured as ‘Dharma Chakravarti’; Says, ‘I Humbly Accept It as Prasad

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the prestigious title of “Dharma Chakravarti” on Saturday during the centenarycentenarycelebrations of revered Jain spiritual leader Acharya Vidyanand. The grand event was held at Vigyan Bhawan, where prominent Jain scholars, saints, and national dignitaries gathered to pay tribute.
A Gesture of Humility
Accepting the honour, PM Modi expressed deep humility, stating he did not feel personally worthy of such recognition but would receive it as ‘prasad’—a sacred offering from the saintly community. “Sants se jo mila, vah prasad hai… ise mein vinamrata se svaikar karta hoon, aur isse Bharati ke charno me arpit karta hoon,” he remarked.
Embracing Jain Ideals
In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the enduring influence of Jain philosophy on Indian culture and global values. He highlighted foundational principles like Anekāntavāda (the doctrine of multiple perspectives) and Ahimsa (non-violence), noting their profound relevance in a world grappling with conflict and ecological crises.
Preserving Knowledge, Digitally
Recognizing the intellectual richness of Jain literature, PM Modi described it as the “backbone of India’s scholarly legacy.” To promote preservation and accessibility, he announced key initiatives such as:
Declaring Prakrit and Pāli as classical languages
Launching the Gyan Bharatam Mission to digitally archive millions of ancient manuscripts using advanced technologies like artificial intelligence
Jainism in Indian Architecture
The Prime Minister also underscored Jainism’s deep integration with Indian democracy and national symbols. He cited examples such as:
The Shardula Dwar at the new Parliament building
A Tirthankara statue gifted from Australia at the Lok Sabha entrance
Wall carvings representing all 24 Tirthankaras inside the Parliament
These, he said, symbolize Jainism’s timeless contribution to India’s identity.
Harmony of Heritage and Progress
PM Modi described the title of Dharma Chakravarti as both a spiritual honour and a symbol of national responsibility. He emphasized India’s ability to move forward technologically while remaining deeply rooted in its traditions. “A developed India means growth as well as heritage — rising high without disconnecting from its roots,” he said.
To mark the occasion, a commemorative stamp and coin were unveiled. The ceremony also featured a collective chanting of the Navkar Mahamantra and reaffirmed commitment to societal development—highlighting key priorities such as cleanliness, water conservation, organic farming, public health, sports, and supporting the underprivileged, as part of the PM’s nine-point pledge.
PM Modi’s recognition as “Dharma Chakravarti” is not only a tribute to his leadership but also a celebration of Jain values that continue to shape India’s cultural and spiritual fabric. The event commemorated Acharya Vidyanand’s enduring legacy while reaffirming Jainism’s place at the heart of India’s future — one rooted in compassion, wisdom, and harmony.
