Guwahati (The Uttam Hindu): On the second day of his Northeast tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gifted Assam development projects worth Rs 19,000 crore. Addressing a huge public gathering on this occasion, PM Modi appealed to the people to buy 'Made in India' goods during the festive season, while also launching a scathing attack on the Congress accusing it of insulting Assam's cultural heritage.

The Prime Minister targeted the Congress and said that the party had insulted Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. The PM said, "Congress said, Modi gave respect to a dancer and singer... I am a devotee of Lord Shiva, I swallow all the poison. Congress insulted the son of Assam, it hurts a lot." He appealed to the public that the people of the country should seek an answer from the Congress on the insult of Bhupen Da. The PM also said, "140 crore countrymen are my remote controls, apart from this I have no other remote control."

Praising the development of Assam, PM Modi said that due to the joint efforts of the double engine government, Assam is making a splash in the country and the world today. He said, "There was a time when Assam was lagging behind, but today Assam is progressing at a growth rate of 13 percent. The BJP government is working with the goal of making Assam the growth engine of India's development." The PM said that the Congress built only three bridges on the Brahmaputra in 60-65 years, while his government has built 6 big bridges in a decade, which are being built keeping in mind the needs of a developed India in 2047.

Referring to the upcoming festivals, PM Modi asked the people for a promise. He said, “Whatever you buy will be indigenous, you will buy Made in India.” Clarifying his definition of ‘swadeshi’, he said, “The company may be from any country, the name may be of any country, but buy only the goods that are made in India. It should have the fragrance of the soil of my India and the sweat of the youth of my country.”
