Hajipur (The Uttam Hindu): In Bihar’s Vaishali district, police officials investigating a theft case themselves came under serious allegations. In Lalganj police station area, the station in-charge and a sub-inspector are accused of misappropriating seized valuables by not recording them in the official seizure list.

After the matter came to light during an internal inquiry, Vaishali Superintendent of Police Lalit Mohan Sharma suspended Lalganj police station in-charge Santosh Kumar and sub-inspector Suman Jha and ordered them to be attached to the police lines.

According to a police official, on December 30, a raid was conducted by Lalganj police at the house of Rampreet Sahni in Bilandpur village, based on confidential information. The raid was led by Lalganj station in-charge Inspector Santosh Kumar. Official records showed the recovery of stolen items including three televisions, two live cartridges, one empty cartridge, and some copper and other metal utensils.

However, during further investigation, it was alleged that around ₹50 lakh in cash, nearly 2 kg of gold, and about 6 kg of silver were also recovered during the raid but were not mentioned in the seizure memo. Instead, the valuables were allegedly taken away by the police personnel.

The accused’s relative, Gena Lal Sahni, claimed that police seized ₹50–60 lakh in cash, around 2 kg of gold, and 6 kg of silver from the house during the raid, but none of these items were officially recorded. He further stated that several villagers had seen police officers carrying away valuable items.

Following these complaints, the matter was reported to the Vaishali Superintendent of Police. After a preliminary inquiry confirmed irregularities, strict action was taken against the officers involved. The SP stated that a departmental inquiry is underway and assured that even stronger action will follow if the allegations are proven.
