Windhoek/New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Windhoek, Namibia on Wednesday at the invitation of Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. Here PM Modi was given a grand welcome with a traditional dance. Modi posted on social media 'X', "Reached Windhoek a while ago. Namibia is a valuable and trusted African partner with whom we want to increase bilateral cooperation. I am looking forward to meeting President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and addressing the Namibian Parliament today."

During this time, Prime Minister Modi could not stop himself and he also played the Namibian traditional dholak. He will hold bilateral talks with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitw. This is Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Namibia and the third visit of any Prime Minister from India. He has reached Windhoek on the fifth and final leg of his five-nation visit. During his visit, Modi will hold bilateral talks with the President of Namibia. Apart from this, he will pay tribute to Namibia's founding father and first President Dr. Sam Nujoma.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Prime Minister's visit is a reiteration of India's multifaceted and deep historical relations with Namibia. A total of six important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) can be signed between India and Namibia in areas such as trade, investment, education, health, ICT and environment. These will also include agreements on cooperation in the mineral and energy sectors including UPI. India and Namibia are negotiating towards direct import of diamonds, which will reduce the role of middlemen. Also, the possibility of long-term agreements on important minerals like uranium, cobalt and lanthanides has been expressed.
