PM Modi Honoured with Namibia's Highest Civilian Award 'Order of Welwitschia Mirabilis'

Windhoek/New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, Namibia's highest civilian honour, was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in appreciation of his efforts to improve India-Namibia ties. At a formal ceremony held at the State House in Windhoek, Namibian President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah presented the award.

Key Highlights of the Visit:
1. Strengthening Bilateral Ties: PM Modi and President Nandi-Ndaitwah discussed ways to bolster cooperation in areas such as digital technology, defense, security, agriculture, healthcare, education, and critical minerals.
2. Four Agreements Signed: The two sides signed agreements on cooperation in health and medicine, setting up an entrepreneurship development center in Namibia, CDRI Framework, and Global Biofuels Alliance Framework.
3. Project Cheetah: PM Modi expressed gratitude for Namibia's assistance in Project Cheetah, a initiative aimed at conserving and promoting cheetahs in India.
4. Ceremonial Welcome: PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome and a guard of honor at State House, followed by a 21-gun salute.
Significance of the Award:
1. The Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis is Namibia's highest civilian honor, symbolizing resilience, longevity and the enduring spirit of the Namibian people.
2. This award marks the 27th international honor conferred on PM Modi by a foreign government since he assumed office in May 2014.
3. The ceremony underscores the deepening strategic partnership between India and Namibia, spanning areas such as trade, energy, wildlife conservation and capacity building.
