Rampal gets bail after 11 years: Punjab-Haryana High Court grants relief in sedition case
The court has allowed him to be released on bail pending the appeal, with conditions that he doesn't promote mob mentality or participate in congregations that could disturb public peace

Hisar (The Uttam Hindu): Rampal, head of the Satlok Ashram and serving a life sentence, has received a major relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court has granted Rampal's bail plea in a very serious sedition case. Rampal has been behind bars for the past 11 years, 4 months, and 20 days and is currently serving his sentence in Hisar's Central Jail-2. The news of his bail has caused a stir among his supporters.
This legal process will have to be completed for release from jail
Despite being granted bail by the High Court, Rampal will not be able to leave jail immediately; legal procedures will need to be completed. Hisar Central Jail-2 Superintendent Umesh Kumar explained the release process, stating that the High Court's bail order will first be sent to the relevant court. After the paperwork is completed, a bail bond will be signed there. Only after this entire process is completed and the court's final order reaches the jail administration will Rampal be released from jail.
In 2014, a bloody massacre took place outside the ashram, claiming the lives of six people
This sedition case against Rampal stems from a horrific incident in 2014. The High Court had issued a clear order for Rampal to appear before it in a contempt of court case, but he flatly refused to do so. Subsequently, on November 19, 2014, when a large police force arrived at the Satlok Ashram in Barwala, Hisar district, to arrest him, Rampal's supporters engaged in a violent confrontation with the police. Five women and a one-and-a-half-year-old child tragically died in this horrific clash. Rampal was charged with sedition for directly confronting the police and inciting violence, and he has now been granted bail.
