Rebel TMC MLA Humayun Kabir in trouble again: Son detained over assault charges

Murshidabad (The Uttam Hindu): Troubles appear to be mounting once again for rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA and Janata Unnayan Party founder Humayun Kabir. On Sunday morning, a commotion erupted in Shaktipur, Murshidabad district, when a police team surrounded the MLA's house. Amid widespread commotion, Shaktinagar police detained Humayun Kabir's son, Ghulam Nabi Azad, alias 'Robin,' who faces serious charges of assaulting his father's bodyguard (a police constable). Following this action, tension has gripped the area, and the MLA has issued a warning to the police.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on Sunday morning. Constable Jumma Khan, Humayun Kabir's PSO, filed a complaint at the Shaktipur police station. According to the complaint, the MLA became angry when the constable requested leave to go home. At the time, Humayun Kabir was holding a meeting with party workers in the ground floor office of his Shaktipur home. It is alleged that during an argument over leave, the constable was slapped and, when he protested, the MLA's son, Robin, beat him in front of everyone. The injured constable immediately went to the police station and filed a written complaint, prompting police action.
Angered by the police action, Humayun Kabir has issued an open challenge to the administration. After his son's detention, he threatened to surround the Baharampur District Police Office (SP Office) if the police committed any misdeeds or excesses near his home. In his defense, Humayun claimed that the constable had mistreated him. He said, "The security guard forcibly entered my office and tried to assault me. I have CCTV footage and will present evidence if necessary." Meanwhile, the police have seized CCTV footage from the MLA's home and office on two pen drives and are investigating the matter.
This incident has also taken a political turn. Trinamool Congress spokesperson Arup Chakraborty reacted sharply, saying that Humayun Kabir himself admitted that he had assaulted a security guard. He said, "If anyone assaults the police, the law will take its course." It's worth noting that Humayun Kabir has rebelled against the TMC and formed his own party, the Janata Unnayan Party, but his son, Ghulam Nabi Azad, also known as Robin, remains in the Trinamool Congress and serves as the executive officer of the Beldanga-2 Panchayat Samiti.
