Sanjay Raut Apologises for Post on CJI, Supreme Court Orders Personal Appearance on November 17
Sanjay Raut has apologised for his post on the Chief Justice of India, but the Supreme Court has directed him to appear in person on November 17.

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court over his social media post criticising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant. In an affidavit submitted to the apex court, Raut said his apology was voluntary and made without any pressure. However, the court has directed him to appear in person on November 17, keeping the matter open for further consideration.
In his affidavit, Raut expressed respect for the dignity, authority and independence of the judiciary, stating that he had no intention of insulting the Supreme Court or undermining its institutional standing. During Wednesday's hearing, however, no lawyer appeared on his behalf, and the apology had not been formally taken on record. The court subsequently ordered Raut to appear personally at the next hearing, when it will consider his apology and decide the further course of action.
The controversy stems from a social media post in which Raut shared a video of violent protests in Albania and claimed that protesters had set the Supreme Court on fire and attacked government buildings over alleged support for corrupt prime ministers. He urged India and other countries to draw lessons from the incident. The post triggered a political backlash, with the BJP accusing him of encouraging anarchy and threatening judicial institutions. A complaint was filed with the Delhi Police seeking legal action, following which the Supreme Court issued a contempt notice to Raut. The November 17 hearing is expected to determine whether the court accepts his apology or proceeds with further action in the case.
