New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A new controversy has erupted over the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer district. Jitendra Singh, head of the Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh, has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court, demanding an immediate halt to the tradition of the Prime Minister offering a chadar (a sacred thread) every year at the Ajmer shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

The petitioner argues that this matter is not merely about tradition, but also about the historical identity and constitutional values of religious sites. He states that the site where the dargah is located previously housed the Sankat Mochan Mahadev Temple. Therefore, it is inappropriate for a person holding a government or constitutional position to offer a chadar. On this basis, he has approached the Supreme Court.

A case regarding this issue is already pending in the Ajmer Civil Court. Vishnu Gupta, National President of the Hindu Sena, challenged the tradition of the Prime Minister offering a chadar (chadar) at the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti during the Urs. The petition was heard in the Ajmer court on Thursday, where both sides presented their arguments. After hearing the arguments, the court did not issue a final decision and set January 3 for the next hearing.

Now, a petition has also been filed in the Supreme Court by Jitendra Singh, head of the Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh. However, no date has yet been set for the hearing of the case. Every year, the Prime Minister and several other leaders offer a chadar at the Ajmer Dargah during the Urs. Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will arrive in Ajmer on Monday and participate in the Urs program. The chadar will be presented on behalf of the Minority Affairs Ministry.
