Sevni (The Uttam Hindu): In a major crackdown in Sevni district, Madhya Pradesh, authorities have filed an FIR against 11 police officers in connection with keeping approximately ₹1.45 crore in hawala transactions. So far, 8 officers have been arrested, while 3 others remain at large.

The FIR was registered at Lakhnawada police station under the directives of the Jabalpur Inspector General (IG). Earlier, the IG had assigned Additional SP Crime Ayush Gupta to investigate the case. Based on the SIT’s findings, the IG ordered the FIR to be lodged.

The accused include CSP Pooja Pandey and Bandol SHO Arpit Bhairam among other officers. Police are actively searching for the three absconding personnel. Considering the case's gravity, Chhindwara DIG Rakesh Singh personally visited Sevni to oversee proceedings.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of four members has been formed to conduct an in-depth inquiry and submit a comprehensive report. The investigation has already begun, with charges including robbery, abduction, and criminal conspiracy filed against the officers.

Speaking to the media, DIG Rakesh Singh stated, “During a vehicle check, approximately ₹2.96 crore was recovered from an individual’s vehicle. Failing to deposit a large portion of this amount and refraining from taking any legal action constitutes a serious offense.”

Authorities confirmed that the vehicle owner informed senior police officials, prompting an official investigation. All 11 police officers have been implicated, with 8 already in custody, while the remaining 3 are being actively pursued.
