Skanda Shashti 2025: Auspicious Day Dedicated to Lord Kartikeya, Know Puja Vidhi, Muhurat, and Significance

New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): The Krishna Paksha Shashti Tithi of the Ashwin month will be observed on Friday, September 12, 2025. This day holds special religious significance as it is dedicated to Lord Kartikeya (Skanda), the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Devotees believe that observing a fast and performing special puja on this day grants fulfillment of desires.
According to the Drik Panchang, the Panchami Tithi will last until 9:58 AM on September 12, after which the Shashti Tithi begins. The Abhijit Muhurat will be from 11:52 AM to 12:42 PM, while Rahu Kaal will be from 10:44 AM to 12:17 PM. On this day, the Sun will remain in Leo (Simha Rashi), and the Moon will be in Aries (Mesha Rashi) until 5:30 PM, after which it will transit into Taurus (Vrishabha Rashi).
As per the Skanda Purana, Skanda Shashti is observed in remembrance of Lord Kartikeya’s victory over the demon Tarakasura. Following this divine triumph, the Devas celebrated the festival of Skanda Shashti, making it one of the most significant observances for devotees.
It is especially believed that childless couples should observe the Skanda Shashti Vrat for the blessing of progeny.
Puja Vidhi (Rituals):
Rise during Brahma Muhurat and take a holy bath.
Cleanse the temple/puja space and place a red cloth on a wooden platform.
Install an idol or image of Lord Kartikeya.
Begin with the worship of Lord Ganesha and the Navagrahas, followed by a sankalp (vow).
Offer clothes, perfumes, Champa flowers, ornaments, lamps, incense, and Naivedya (food offering) to Lord Kartikeya.
Since Champa is Lord Kartikeya’s favorite flower, this day is also known as Champa Shashti along with Skanda Shashti and Kanda Shashti.
Perform aarti and circumambulate the deity three times while chanting the mantra: “Om Skanda Shivaya Namah.”
Conclude by partaking of the prasad.
