Angul (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic road accident occurred early Sunday morning in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, where five policemen on duty lost their lives and three others were seriously injured after a speeding trailer collided head-on with a police Bolero vehicle. The accident took place near the Jharsuguda Sadar police station, creating panic in the surrounding area.

The impact of the collision was extremely severe, leaving the police vehicle completely mangled. According to initial reports, the police team was on duty when an out-of-control trailer coming from the opposite direction crashed into their vehicle. Those who died on the spot included APR constables Kashiram Bhoi and Debdutt Sa, Drill Sub-Inspector Niranjan Kujur, APR Havildar Lingaraj Dhurua and Home Guard Bhaktabandhu Mirdha.

After the accident, local residents and police personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital. Two APR personnel and one sergeant sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment. Hospital sources said their condition remains critical and they are under close observation.

Senior police officials reached the scene soon after receiving information about the incident. The trailer driver has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. The incident has left the police department and the entire district in mourning, with many expressing condolences to the families of the deceased.
