Supreme Court questions UP religious conversion law, says it makes conversion difficult

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Supreme Court has raised serious questions about the anti-conversion law implemented in Uttar Pradesh. The court commented that the law makes it difficult for those wishing to change their religion.
The bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra also expressed deep concern over the involvement and interference of government officials in the private process of a person converting his religion.
The bench said, it appears that this law has been made to increase the interference of the government machinery in the process of someone's conversion.
However, the court also made it clear that it was not currently considering the constitutional validity of Uttar Pradesh's anti-conversion law.
The bench stressed that India is a secular country and anyone here is free to convert as per his/her wish.
