New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In a recent important decision, the Supreme Court clarified that no court can force a woman, especially a minor, to continue a pregnancy without her consent. This comment came in a case in which the court allowed a 30-week pregnant woman to have an abortion.

According to reports, the girl became pregnant during a relationship when she was 17 years old. The Supreme Court stated that at first glance, this pregnancy may appear illegal, as she was not an adult at the time. However, the court clarified that in this case, it is not necessary whether the relationship was consensual or a case of sexual exploitation. The important thing is that the girl herself did not want to give birth to this child. The court also stated that the woman's decision should be paramount in matters related to reproduction.

The Supreme Court noted that the decision in this case was not easy. The court raised the question of whose rights should take priority between the unborn child and the woman who gave birth. The court clarified that a woman cannot be forced to continue her pregnancy without her consent.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court directed Mumbai's JJ Hospital to terminate the girl's pregnancy with all necessary precautions and precautions. The court stated that the hospital must ensure the procedure is conducted safely and that the girl does not suffer any mental or physical harm. Experts and human rights organizations are hailing this decision as significant, as it demonstrates a heightened sensitivity to reproductive rights.
