New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is once again in the news for his comments. This time, he has supported the political legacy of former Deputy Prime Minister and BJP veteran L.K. Advani and compared him to Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, sparking a fresh debate on social media.

Shashi Tharoor, while wishing L.K. Advani on his 98th birthday on November 8, described him as a "true statesman." He said his unwavering commitment to public service, his humility and decency, and his role in shaping the course of modern India are unforgettable.

Tharoor then argued on social media that a leader who has served the public for decades shouldn't be judged based on a single incident. He wrote, "It is unfair to limit Advaniji's long years of service to a single incident, no matter how significant. Just as Nehruji's entire political career cannot be judged solely by the setback against China (1962), nor can Indira Gandhi be defined solely by the Emergency. The same fairness should be shown to Advaniji."

However, Tharoor's praise of Advani's long public life drew sharp reactions online. Many critics accused the Congress MP of "whitewashing" the BJP leader's role in alleged "divisive politics." Supreme Court advocate Sanjay Hegde hit back at Tharoor's post, saying, "Sowing the seeds of hatred in this country is no public service at all.
