Thunderstorm and Rain Warning in Several Odisha Districts, IMD Issues Alert

Bhubaneswar (The Uttam Hindu): The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds in several districts of Odisha over the next few hours. The IMD has stated that surface winds could reach speeds of 30–40 km/h in these areas, and there is a possibility of lightning strikes.

According to the alert, western Odisha districts such as Balangir, Bargarh, and Nuapada are expected to experience particularly bad weather. The warning has been extended to include Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, and Puri districts.

The IMD has advised residents of the affected districts to remain vigilant. People are urged to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and lightning, take shelter in safe places, and refrain from going outside unnecessarily.

Farmers and those living in rural areas have been specifically advised to follow safety precautions. The IMD warns that the weather may deteriorate suddenly in these districts, so residents should exercise caution and follow government instructions.

Meanwhile, Telangana has also been placed on alert for heavy rainfall. The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in several districts, along with thunderstorms and strong winds (40–50 km/h). Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has instructed all departments to remain alert in view of the weather forecast.

Orange alerts have been issued for Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Hanumakonda districts.

Additionally, districts including Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar may also experience localized heavy rainfall.
