Seven devotees were killed after a speeding truck ran over pilgrims on Lakhtar-Viramgam highway in Surendranagar, Gujarat, while they were heading towards Bahucharaji Temple.

Surendranagar (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic road accident took place early Monday morning in Surendranagar, where a speeding truck ran over a group of people walking along the roadside. The incident resulted in the death of seven people, while several others were injured.

According to Lakhtar Police Inspector Yogesh Patel, the accident occurred around 1:30 AM on the Lakhtar–Viramgam highway. A group of pilgrims was walking in a procession after offering prayers at a temple in Rajkot and heading towards Bahucharaji Temple.

Near Bhaskarpara village in Lakhtar taluka, a negligently driven truck hit the devotees from behind. Police confirmed that six pilgrims and a dumper driver standing by the roadside lost their lives in the incident. Among the deceased were four women. The exact number of injured persons is still being assessed.

Officials stated that the truck driver fled the scene after the accident, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
