Bihar (The Uttam Hindu) : The Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) in Bihar has announced a statewide Chakka Jam (road blockade) protest against the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign aimed at voter verification. The announcement was made today as all major constituent parties of the alliance, including Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, Left parties, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), and Jan Adhikar Party (Pappu Yadav), united in opposing the campaign.

The SIR campaign, initiated by the Election Commission, seeks to update and verify voter lists across the state ahead of upcoming elections. However, the Mahagathbandhan alleges that the process is being misused and could disenfranchise genuine voters, particularly targeting opposition supporters. In response, the alliance has called for a complete shutdown, with protests and road blockades planned across Bihar to press their demand for a fair and transparent voter verification process.

Senior leaders like RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Congress representatives, and Pappu Yadav from Jan Adhikar Party have actively supported the Chakka Jam call. Rahul Gandhi has also expressed solidarity with the movement, criticizing the Election Commission for alleged partiality. This protest marks a significant escalation in political tensions in Bihar ahead of the elections. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid travel during the protest hours and have deployed additional security forces to maintain law and order.

The Mahagathbandhan has urged all citizens to participate peacefully in the Chakka Jam to safeguard democratic rights. The Election Commission, meanwhile has reiterated its commitment to a free and fair electoral process, dismissing allegations of bias. Further developments are expected as the protest unfolds across the state.
