PM Modi, President Trump hold key talks; discuss major issues
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments and discussed ongoing efforts to promote global peace and security

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The two leaders reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas of mutual interest.
A press release from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) stated that during the conversation, they reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and agreed to maintain close contact to deepen cooperation for the benefit of the people of both countries. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international developments and discussed ongoing efforts to promote global peace and security. The two leaders also agreed to remain in touch.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi said in a post on the social media platform X that he had a fruitful conversation with President Trump. "We reviewed our bilateral cooperation in trade, defense, energy, critical technologies, and other areas. We agreed to maintain close cooperation to advance our comprehensive global strategic partnership." He said that we also discussed regional and international issues, including ongoing efforts to promote global peace and security.
This conversation between the two leaders comes at a time when Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is in the United States to discuss trade-related issues. Goyal is currently in the United States for the G20 Trade Ministers' meeting. He is scheduled to hold a special meeting with US Trade Representative Jameson Greer regarding the India-US trade deal. The conversation between Prime Minister Modi and Donald Trump just before this important meeting is significant in itself.
