Chennai (The Uttam Hindu): The Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) Council meeting is scheduled to begin at 10 AM on Wednesday at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Mamallapuram. Party president and actor Vijay is expected to address members publicly for the first time since the Karur stampede tragedy, which claimed 41 lives and shocked the entire state of Tamil Nadu.

The meeting, with the participation of nearly 2,000 members, will finalize the party’s organizational structure, election roadmap, and political strategy ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The Karur tragedy occurred on September 27 during Vijay’s public rally, leading to widespread criticism over crowd control and safety lapses. Initially, Vijay refrained from issuing a public statement but later released a video message expressing deep sorrow. He invited the bereaved families to Mamallapuram, met them personally, and announced a compensation of ₹20 lakh for each family.

Recently, Vijay met 31 affected families at the hotel and provided relief assistance. However, a women’s organization report claimed that the delay in Vijay’s arrival was the primary cause of the tragedy, sparking ongoing controversy. Following the incident, Vijay stayed away from public life and focused on restructuring the party.

He formed a 28-member executive committee, appointing senior leader Bussy Anand as General Secretary to streamline decision-making and strengthen the party’s structure. The previous council session had discussed the Karur tragedy and outlined TVK’s future plans.

In today’s meeting, members are expected to debate key resolutions related to political strategy, constituency-level mobilization, membership drives, and alliance policies. The party has made it clear that TVK will contest elections independently, without forming alliances with DMK, BJP, or AIADMK.
