Bhopal (The Uttam Hindu) : On the occasion of Muharram, Tazia processions were carried out with devotion and discipline across various districts of Madhya Pradesh on Monday. While most places witnessed peaceful observances, Ujjain saw brief tension during a procession in the Fountain Chowk area, prompting police intervention.

Tension in Ujjain, Mild Lathicharge by Police

In Ujjain, an altercation broke out among a few individuals participating in the Tazia procession, leading to sudden chaos. According to eyewitnesses, some anti-social elements attempted to incite unrest during the scuffle. Police responded promptly, using mild force to disperse the crowd and restore order. A few people sustained minor injuries in the incident, but no serious damage was reported. Ujjain SP Sachin Sharma confirmed that the situation is now fully under control. He added that CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify those responsible, and strict action will be taken. Additional police forces have been deployed in the city, and a flag march was also conducted to reassure residents.

Section 144 Enforced in Several Districts

In anticipation of large crowds, especially with Muharram coinciding with the holy month of Sawan, the state government had placed multiple districts under Section 144. The Home Department directed all local administrations to stay alert and monitor social media closely to prevent the spread of rumors or provocative content. Any attempt to incite tension will be met with strict legal action.

Peaceful Celebrations Across the State

Umaria: Muharram became a shining example of communal harmony. For over 200 years, the symbolic Sawari of Baba Huzoor has been welcomed by a Hindu Thakur family. People from all communities gather to offer their prayers, representing the essence of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb.

Harda: The Shia Muslim community conducted traditional mourning processions, beating their chests in remembrance. The administration ensured tight security, and local residents actively supported in managing traffic, displaying unity and discipline.

Bhopal: The capital witnessed a grand Tazia procession with thousands participating. The black Tazias and cultural performances in areas like Itwara, Budhwara, and Aishbagh added to the significance of the event. Security arrangements were robust and well-coordinated.

Indore: Processions passed peacefully through areas such as Malharganj, Nandanagar, and the Cantonment zone. Alam and matam programs were held with reverence, while the administration maintained strong vigilance in sensitive areas to ensure communal harmony. Overall, despite the brief unrest in Ujjain, Muharram was observed peacefully across most parts of Madhya Pradesh, reflecting both religious devotion and the spirit of social unity.
