Underworld Don Arun Gawli Walks Free After 18 Years: Supreme Court Grants Bail in 2007 Murder Case

Nagpur (The Uttam Hindu): Underworld don Arun Gawli has come out of Nagpur jail after 17 years. He was arrested in 2007 on charges of murdering Shiv Sena leader Kamlakar Jamsandekar. Recently, the Supreme Court granted bail to Arun Gawli. After this, on Wednesday, don Arun Gawli was released from Nagpur jail on bail. Arun Gawli was released amid Nagpur police protection.
It is being told that the police team brought him to Babasaheb Ambedkar Airport in Nagpur on Wednesday, then left for Mumbai by plane. Arun Gawli, who was also elected MLA from a Mumbai assembly seat in 2004, was serving life imprisonment in Nagpur Central Jail in the case of murder of Mumbai Shiv Sena councilor Kamlakar Jamsandekar. Arun Gawli was convicted in the 2007 murder case of Shiv Sena councilor Kamlakar Jamsandekar. The Mumbai Sessions Court sentenced Gawli to life imprisonment in this case in 2012. After this he was transferred to Nagpur Central Jail.
After his arrest, Arun Gawli approached the courts from time to time. He challenged the decision of the Sessions Court in the Bombay High Court. However, in 2019, the High Court upheld the decision of the lower court. Petitions were filed on behalf of Gawli for bail. Finally Arun Gawli approached the Supreme Court. Last week on August 28, the Supreme Court granted bail to Gawli in the Shiv Sena councilor murder case. Considering Gawli's age (73 years) and long sentence period (18 years of sentence), the court granted bail.
