UP draft voter list to be published today, names of nearly three crore people may be removed; check your name from home

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the draft voter list for Uttar Pradesh will be published on Tuesday. This is considered an important step in the state’s election preparations. The exercise is being carried out under the supervision of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and District Electoral Officers (DEOs) to ensure transparency and inclusion in the voter registration process ahead of upcoming elections.
According to officials, hard copies of the draft electoral roll will be shared with all recognized political parties across the state. This will allow party representatives to verify the lists easily and raise objections or suggest corrections wherever discrepancies are found. By involving political stakeholders directly, the Commission aims to strengthen public trust in the fairness of the electoral process.
The draft voter list will also be made available online, making it easier for citizens to check their details without visiting government offices. Along with the main list, separate details of voters marked as absent, shifted, deceased, or duplicate will also be published online. This step is intended to maintain accuracy in the electoral database and prevent misuse.
Citizens and political parties will be given an opportunity to review the lists and file claims or objections if they believe any name has been wrongly categorized or removed. Officials clarified that the publication of the draft roll is not the final stage, but part of a larger revision process. Necessary corrections will be made before the final voter list is released.
The exercise reflects the Election Commission’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible voter in Uttar Pradesh is properly registered and that the electoral roll remains error-free. As the state moves toward a politically significant period, the publication of the draft voter list is expected to lay the foundation for a transparent and participatory election process.
