Shamli (The Uttam Hindu): In Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, police shot dead a wanted dacoit named Samaydeen alias Sama during an encounter. He carried a reward of ₹50,000 and originally belonged to Kandhla town, but had been hiding in Tumakuru, Karnataka for a long time. He was wanted in more than 23 serious criminal cases across Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.

Samaydeen was earlier an associate of Nafis, a notorious criminal who carried a ₹1 lakh reward and was killed in an encounter in Kandhla in October. After Nafis’s death, Sama fled to Punjab and continued escaping police surveillance.

Police received intelligence that Samaydeen and his gang were planning a robbery at a brick kiln in the Bhensani forest area under Thana Bhawan police station. When the police team surrounded the spot, the criminals opened fire. In the retaliatory firing, Samaydeen was badly injured. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died during treatment.

A police constable was also seriously injured in the encounter and was referred to the district hospital. A bullet hit the jacket of Babri Police Station in-charge Rahul Sisodia, but he remained unharmed. The police recovered two pistols, one country-made weapon and a large number of cartridges from the site. Around six criminals were present during the firing, and five of them managed to escape. A search operation is underway in the forest.

SP N.P. Singh said, “We had information that the gang was hiding at the brick kiln. When we surrounded the area, they started firing. In our response, one criminal was critically injured and later died in the hospital. A police personnel is also injured and undergoing treatment. Today, a major criminal has been eliminated.”

According to the police, Samaydeen was involved in dacoities and robberies across multiple states with different criminal gangs.
