Katra (The Uttam Hindu): Due to the continuously bad weather in Jammu and Kashmir, the famous pilgrimage to the holy place Vaishno Devi has once again been postponed indefinitely. The administration has taken this decision keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims.

Vaishno Devi Yatra suspended again due to bad weather in Jammu and Kashmir threat of heavy rain and landslides persists : It is worth noting that this Yatra was already suspended for 19 days and there were plans to resume it from Sunday (14 September). But due to sudden heavy rains and deteriorating conditions on the track, the Yatra had to be suspended again. Due to heavy rains, there is a possibility of slippery conditions and landslides in the mountainous areas, which could endanger the lives of the pilgrims.

Earlier on August 26, 34 pilgrims had died tragically in a major landslide incident on the way to the temple. After this accident, the administration had stopped the journey and the route was kept closed till the situation became normal.

Devotees have been appealed not to plan the yatra until the weather clears and further information is issued by the administration. The security arrangements are being reviewed by the administration and the yatra is likely to resume as soon as the weather improves.
