New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the country's first Vande Bharat Sleeper train today. This is being considered a major and significant step in the history of Indian Railways. Until now, Vande Bharat trains operated only in chair cars, but the introduction of the sleeper version will completely transform long-distance overnight travel. This train will be a major relief, especially for passengers seeking comfortable and fast overnight travel.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has been designed with modern technology and passenger comfort in mind. Its interiors are inspired by Indian culture, making the train not only comfortable but also visually appealing. The berths, lighting, and coach layouts are designed to ensure that even long journeys are not tiring.

This train is also very advanced in terms of safety. It is equipped with the "Kavach" automatic train protection system, which monitors train speed and signaling, significantly reducing the risk of accidents. Additionally, it is equipped with an emergency talk-back unit, allowing passengers to speak directly to train staff in case of any problems. The driver's cabin also features modern control and safety systems.

Special arrangements have been made for cleanliness and health in the Vande Bharat Sleeper. Disinfectant technology has been used. According to the Railway Ministry, the coaches have been installed with UVC technology, which helps eliminate viruses and bacteria present in the air. This system filters and cleans the air in the coach and then releases fresh air inside. This means that even if a nearby passenger has a cold or flu, other passengers will not need to worry too much.

The train's exterior will also be modern and aerodynamic. This will result in smoother running and reduced energy consumption. Its doors will be automatic, opening and closing automatically during station stops and departures.

In terms of speed, the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will have a maximum speed of 180 kilometers per hour, while during normal operations it will run at approximately 130 kilometers per hour. Passengers will also enjoy several premium amenities on this train, including high-quality blankets, covers, and advanced bedrolls. Catering services will also be available for passengers, providing food and beverages.

With comfort in mind, the train features ergonomic berths with enhanced cushioning and noise reduction technology, ensuring a quiet and comfortable night journey. All onboard staff will be dressed in prescribed uniforms to ensure superior passenger service.

This train will have a total of 16 coaches, including 11 third AC, 4 second AC, and 1 first AC. Fares may be slightly higher than premium trains like the Rajdhani Express. Third AC fares from Guwahati to Howrah will be around ₹2,300.
