Warning for Ramesshwaram Travellers! Danger Alert on Pamban Bridge; Is Your Train on the List?

Rameswaram/Chennai (The Uttam Hindu): Rail traffic on the historic Pamban Bridge which connects Rameswaram Island to the mainland has been severely affected. Due to strong winds and bad weather conditions over the sea, railway authorities have taken strict safety measures. Wind speed on the bridge touched 58 kmph, much higher than the safety limit set for train operations. Considering the risk on the 2.2-km-long bridge, train movement has been suspended as a precaution.

Southern Railway, prioritizing passenger safety, has cancelled several trains. Some services have been short-terminated at intermediate stations, while others will now originate from alternative stations instead of Rameswaram. Officials said train operations will resume only after wind speeds return to safe limits.

Thousands of passengers have been affected due to the weather disturbance. Southern Railway has issued a special advisory asking passengers to check their latest train status before leaving home or heading to the station. Technical teams and weather experts are closely monitoring wind conditions, and services will be restored once the situation becomes normal.
