Big political shift in West Bengal as Owaisi parts ways with ally, opts to go alone
Owaisi ends alliance in West Bengal, decides to contest elections independently, reshaping political dynamics ahead of polls.

Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): Political activity in West Bengal has intensified ahead of the elections, with Asaduddin Owaisi’s party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen announcing a major decision to break its alliance with Humayun Kabir. The party has declared that it will now contest the upcoming elections independently without forming any alliance.
In a post on social media platform X, AIMIM stated that recent remarks attributed to Humayun Kabir raised concerns about the dignity and condition of Muslims in the state. The party emphasized that it cannot be associated with any statement that undermines community dignity. It further added that its political objective is to provide an independent voice to marginalized sections and that it will continue to pursue this goal by contesting elections on its own.
The controversy began after a purported video surfacedvallegedly showing Humayun Kabir in a meeting with leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party discussing strategies to defeat Mamata Banerjee. The Trinamool Congress released the video during a press conference triggering a political storm. The party claimed that Kabir was in contact with senior BJP leaders including Suvendu Adhikari and Himanta Biswa Sarma and alleged a large financial deal aimed at unseating the current government. It has demanded an investigation into the matter by the Enforcement Directorate.
Meanwhile, Humayun Kabir has strongly denied all allegations claiming that the viral video is fabricated using artificial intelligence. He described it as a conspiracy to defame him and said he would take legal action. The BJP has also rejected the claims accusing the Trinamool Congress of spreading misinformation out of fear of losing the elections.
