Is air conditioning drying out your skin and hair? Here's what experts suggest
Prolonged exposure to air conditioning can strip moisture from the skin and hair, causing dryness, irritation and damage. Experts recommend hydration and proper skincare to minimize the effects.

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): While air conditioners provide relief from the scorching summer heat, prolonged exposure to AC can lead to dry skin and damaged hair. The low humidity levels in air-conditioned rooms cause moisture to evaporate faster, resulting in dryness, itching, irritation and hair breakage.
According to skin experts, excessive exposure to dry air can weaken the skin's natural protective barrier making it more vulnerable to dehydration and rashes. Regular use of moisturizers, hydrating lotions and face masks can help maintain the skin's moisture balance and keep it healthy.
Hair is also affected by prolonged AC use, as dry air reduces moisture in the hair cuticles, making strands brittle and prone to breakage. Experts recommend using moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, staying hydrated and following a proper skincare and haircare routine to minimize the effects of air conditioning.
