Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu) : On the occasion of the 12th International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a grand event on Kolkata's Red Road. Thousands of people participated in yoga with him. The Prime Minister not only performed various yoga asanas but also reached out to participants and guided them on proper yoga practice.

During the event, Prime Minister Modi stated that yoga is not only a means of maintaining physical health, but also a foundation for mental peace, spiritual balance, and a positive lifestyle. Interacting with participants, he urged them to make yoga a part of their daily lives.

During the yoga practice, the Prime Minister approached some participants and helped them improve their yoga postures. He also provided practical tips on how to perform various asanas correctly. Footage from the event, showing the Prime Minister reaching out to people and correcting their posture, is rapidly going viral on social media.

Sharing photos and a message from the event on the social media platform "X," Prime Minister Modi wrote that the Yoga Day celebrations held on Red Road in Kolkata saw enthusiastic participation from all sections of society. He said that yoga is today spreading the message of healthy living and collective well-being to the entire world.

This year the theme of International Yoga Day was 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing' , which aims to inspire people of all age groups to lead a healthy and active life through yoga.

Why is Yoga Day celebrated only on 21st June?

In his address, the Prime Minister also explained the significance of choosing June 21st for International Yoga Day. He said that June 21st is considered the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special spiritual significance in Indian tradition. This is why the United Nations recognized this date as International Yoga Day.

Enthusiasm for yoga seen across the country

Large-scale events were also organized in various states across the country to mark International Yoga Day. From the Himalayan regions to the seashore, millions of people participated in yoga sessions in schools, universities, parks, public spaces, and community centers. Participation from people of all age groups reflected the growing awareness and popularity of yoga.
