New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – A new study by Florida International University has found that parents’ stress levels can influence children’s screen time. The study surveyed 822 caregivers of children aged 4 to 8 and found that stressed parents were less likely to consistently enforce screen-time rules.

Researchers said parents may sometimes use screens to calm or engage children during difficult situations. Instead of simply reducing screen time, families should focus on age-appropriate content and ensure that screens do not interfere with sleep, play, studies or family time.

Experts recommend the “5 Cs of Media Use” – Child, Content, Coping, Crowding Out and Communication. Researchers stressed that occasional screen use during stressful situations does not make parents irresponsible, but supportive resources can help them set healthier boundaries and maintain stronger connections with their children.
