New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): With the arrival of winter, green vegetables abound. Vegetables like fenugreek, spinach, bathua and fresh green onions enhance the flavor of meals. Each vegetable has its own benefits but winter beans are a treasure trove of health. The seemingly ordinary beans are a "superfood," useful for treating not just one but many ailments.


In Ayurveda, beans are considered highly beneficial. They balance the Vata and Pitta doshas, providing strength and vitality to the body. They are rich in magnesium, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Peas are cultivated throughout India, and their fresh harvest is available in winter, a chance not to miss. They are mildly sweet and juicy with soft seeds that can be steamed.


Consumption of beans strengthens the digestive power. Beans are rich in fiber, which cleans the intestines and provides relief from problems like constipation. For this, eat beans by simply cooking them with ghee and cumin seeds. This preserves the properties of beans. Very few people know that consuming beans improves the skin and strengthens the hair. Beans contain Vitamin C and A, which prevents wrinkles on the face and helps in bringing glow on the face. Along with this, beans are also helpful in strengthening the hair. For this, beans should be consumed only after cooking them with ghee and turmeric.


Beans are rich in calcium, which strengthens bones. They contain more calcium than milk, which helps relieve joint pain and bone cracking. To achieve this, cook the beans with celery and ghee and eat them. If you are suffering from anemia, you should consume beans daily.


Beans contain iron and folate, which help with blood formation and the creation of new cells. For this, beans should be cooked with spinach as a vegetable. Beans are also beneficial for heart health. They contain potassium and fiber, which promote heart function. For this, boil beans and eat them with lemon and salt.
