Upavistha Konasana: A powerful pose for a flatter stomach and stronger spine
Upavistha Konasana helps tone abdominal muscles, reduce belly fat and improve flexibility and spinal strength.

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu News): Yoga plays an important role in maintaining physical health and mental balance. Many Hatha Yoga postures work on different parts of the body together and Upavistha Konasana is one such effective pose. It may look simple but doing it with the right technique is necessary to get full benefits.
To practice this asana sit straight on the floor with your legs stretched forward and then slowly spread them as wide as comfortable. While breathing steadily bend your upper body forward keeping your back straight and try to reach your hands toward your feet. Hold the position for a few moments with normal breathing and then slowly return to the starting position. This helps stretch the thighs hamstrings and back muscles improving flexibility and reducing stiffness over time.
Regular practice also benefits the internal organs by putting gentle pressure on the abdomen which helps improve digestion and relieve problems like gas and constipation. It activates muscles around the abdomen and thighs helping in fat reduction while also stretching and strengthening the spine making it useful for people who sit for long hours. Controlled breathing during the pose improves lung capacity and energy levels and also calms the mind reducing stress and anxiety. However people with severe back shoulder or leg pain should avoid this asana.
