New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): With the objective of strengthening and modernizing the power supply infrastructure in Lodhi Colony area of New Delhi, Delhi Government Minister Shri - Parvesh Sahib Singh and Member of Parliament (New Delhi) - Ms. Bansuri Swaraj today laid the foundation stone of the project for Upgradation of Electric Distribution Network in Lodhi Colony.

The ceremony was held at Central Park Corner, Main Market, Lodhi Colony Road, New Delhi, in the august presence of NDMC Members - Shri Anil Valmiki and Smt. Sarita Tomar, along with senior officials and local residents. The project aims to enhance reliability, ensure stable voltage supply and upgrade the aging electrical distribution system to meet the growing power demand of the area.

In a significant step towards strengthening power supply infrastructure and ensuring reliable electricity for residents, the NDMC has undertaken a major project for augmentation of the electrical distribution system in Lodhi Colony Government Flats. The initiative aims to address long-standing issues of power outages, low voltage and fluctuations caused due to outdated electrical infrastructure and increased electricity demand over the years.

Electric supply to Lodhi Colony Government Flats is provided by NDMC, while the internal electrification maintenance of the flats is carried out by CPWD. The electrical load sanctioned for each flat in the 1960s was only 1 KW; however, with the passage of time, the requirement has increased to approximately 5 to 10 KW per flat. The existing system, designed decades ago, is no longer adequate to meet present-day demand, resulting in frequent power interruptions, particularly during the summer season.

To resolve the issue and provide a stable and efficient power supply to residents, NDMC prepared a comprehensive project for upgradation of the distribution network in the Lodhi Colony area. The Council approved a preliminary estimate amounting to Rs. 9.45 Crore for the work of supplying and laying Low Tension (LT) cables, laying of 11 KV cables and installation of General Supply Smart Feeder Pillars. The project received formal approval from the Council.

Under the project, modern SCADA-compatible Smart Feeder Pillars (40 numbers) are being installed to enable better monitoring, control and reliability of power supply. In addition, 7.5 km of LT 1.1 KV 400 sq.mm cable and 20.120 km of LT 1.1 KV 25 sq.mm cable are being laid to strengthen the distribution network across the colony. Further, 0.5 km of 11 KV 400 sq.mm cable is being laid from the 33 KV Electric Sub-Station, Aliganj (Jor Bagh) to the 11 KV ESS at 5 Block Lodhi Colony to ensure uninterrupted and adequate power supply.

This infrastructure upgradation will significantly improve voltage stability, reduce outages, and enhance the overall efficiency of the power distribution system in Lodhi Colony. The project reflects NDMC’s commitment to modernizing civic infrastructure, adopting smart technologies, and providing reliable public services to residents in line with the vision of efficient and citizen-centric urban governance.

NDMC always remains dedicated to continuously upgrading essential services to meet growing demand and to ensure better quality of life for all residents within its jurisdiction.
