AAP’ Government’s Major Decision: Moga District’s Revenue Record to Be Shifted from Ferozepur Within a Week: Baltej Pannu

Moga/Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab General Secretary Baltej Pannu issued a stern warning to the Central BJP government regarding various issues related to Chandigarh and Punjab. He said that playing with the sentiments of Punjabis is not without danger for a border state (a sensitive state). He also spoke about the ongoing war against drugs, the programmes dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom day, and the matter of the old revenue record of Moga district.
Paying tribute to the Ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, on his martyrdom day, Pannu said that he was a champion of human rights. It was because of his supreme sacrifice that the pleas of Kashmiri Pandits was heard. He said that the government has organised programmes, a light-and-sound show and a special session dedicated to his martyrdom so that future generations can learn about Guru's great sacrifice.
Attacking the BJP, Pannu said that the BJP is repeatedly attempting to test Punjabis and Punjab's identity under some conspiracy. He cited the issues of BBMB, PU, and now Chandigarh. He said that Chandigarh was built by displacing Punjab’s villages. At the time of Haryana’s formation in 1966, it was given only for temporary use, but successive central governments deliberately kept this issue burning. Pannu said that the BJP tried to amend Article 240 of the Constitution to permanently bring Chandigarh under the President’s control, but due to the immediate reaction of the Chief Minister and Punjabis, the BJP had to withdraw its decision within 12 hours. He demanded that the central government must completely withdraw this decision because Punjab is a sensitive state and it is not right to play with people’s sentiments.
Expressing happiness over the completion of 30 years of the formation of Moga district, Pannu said that he had spoken to the Cabinet Minister about the fact that Moga’s revenue record is still in Ferozepur, due to which people face inconvenience. The minister has assured that this record will be shifted to Moga within the next week. He said that he will continue to fulfil his duty of bringing people’s needs and issues to the state government.
Speaking about the ongoing war against drugs, Pannu said that this is a war that is being fought with full strength. He acknowledged that the level of drug menace that built up in the last 20–22 years will take time to be cleaned up. He questioned the opposition, asking what those who swore on the holy Gutka Sahib had done. The ‘AAP’ government has started this in a systematic manner after three years of planning. He mentioned the success of one phase of the ‘Nasha Mukti Morcha’ and the formation of ‘Village Defence Committees,’ through which more than 1 lakh members have joined across Punjab. He said that the second phase aims to reach schools, because this is a battle for the next generation and will continue until the problem is ended.
