AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra arrested from Madhya Pradesh in rape case; Patiala Police to present him in court.
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra has been arrested by Patiala Police in connection with a rape case. A woman had accused him of sexual exploitation, following which a case was registered against him.
To evade arrest, Pathanmajra had reportedly fled to Australia and was later declared a proclaimed offender. During this period, he continued to appear live on social media, speaking against the government.
On Tuesday late night, he was spotted in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, where police apprehended him. According to reports, he was travelling towards Delhi in a Scorpio vehicle for a Supreme Court hearing scheduled on March 25 related to the case. A lookout notice had already been issued against him, and he was finally caught in the Shivpuri area.
Patiala SSP Varun Sharma stated that efforts to arrest the accused had been ongoing for a long time. He and three of his associates were detained from Madhya Pradesh.
The accused has been brought to Patiala, where further legal proceedings will take place. He is expected to be produced in court.
