Action in ₹5 million extortion case from teacher, gangster Goldy Brar’s parents arrested

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): Police have arrested the parents of gangster Goldy Brar in connection with a two-year-old extortion case involving a demand of ₹5 million from a school teacher. The action was taken by Sri Muktsar Sahib Police on Tuesday night around 10 pm. The accused were arrested from a hotel near the Golden Temple in Amritsar, where they were staying.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shamsher Singh and his wife Pritpal. The case relates to an extortion demand made from a teacher two years ago, during which threats were issued to kill him and his family. An FIR was registered on December 3, 2024. According to Muktsar Police, the gangster’s parents were surviving on money obtained through extortion.

The victim teacher is a resident of village Udekaran and has been serving in the education department for the past 33 years. He stated that on November 27, 2024, while he was on duty at school, he received a WhatsApp call from a foreign number between 10:30 and 11:00 am. The caller claimed to be a member of the Bambiha gang and demanded ₹5 million, threatening to kill the teacher and his entire family if the money was not paid.

The caller also said that he had complete information about the teacher and his family and warned him not to take the call lightly.

Repeated threat calls caused mental distress

According to the victim, he received several threatening calls the same day, which left him extremely frightened. Six days later, on December 3, another call was received, but due to fear, he did not answer it. After remaining under severe mental stress throughout the day, he informed his family and, on their advice, filed a complaint at the Sri Muktsar Sahib police station.

Police claim extortion money was being used for expenses

Muktsar Sahib Police stated that at the time the case was registered, the Bambiha gang and Goldy Brar were linked. The investigation revealed that Goldy Brar’s parents had no legitimate source of income and were dependent on extortion money. Both accused have been taken into custody for questioning, and further investigation is underway.
