Amritsar Police Bust Pakistan-Backed Arms Smuggling Module, 15 Pistols Seized

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Police has busted a Pakistan-backed weapon smuggling module operating along the border, recovering 15 sophisticated pistols and arresting seven suspects involved in cross-border arms trafficking. The breakthrough marks a major success in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms supply networks supported by Pakistan-based handlers.
According to police officials, the module was being operated with the help of Pakistani smugglers who used drones to drop weapons across the international border in Amritsar and nearby areas. The recovered weapons include modern semi-automatic pistols and magazines, believed to have been sent to support anti-national activities and organized crime networks in Punjab.
Senior police officers revealed that the arrested accused were part of an inter-state network that not only smuggled arms but also supplied them to local criminal gangs. Preliminary investigations indicate that the module had received multiple consignments of weapons in recent months.
A case under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has been registered. Police are now interrogating the suspects to trace the supply chain and identify their foreign handlers.
Punjab Police officials emphasized that the operation is part of a statewide crackdown on terror modules, drug traffickers, and arms smugglers operating under foreign influence. Security has been heightened along the border to prevent further drone-based smuggling attempts.
