Amritsar rural SSP suspended: CM Mann orders strict action over failure to act against gangsters

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): The Punjab government has suspended Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh with immediate effect. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann took this step due to the increasing gangster activities and the lack of effective control of crime in the district.
Amritsar Rural SSP suspended following orders from CM Bhagwant Mann for failing to take action against gangsters: According to sources, complaints of delays, laxity and lack of timely action in several organized crime cases have been emerging in the district over the past few months. The state government took this decision, taking seriously the police's slow response to several incidents and its failure to curb organized crime.
The report by government officials also noted that surveillance of gangs operating in the area was weakening and in many cases despite intelligence inputs concrete operations were not carried out. This risked emboldening criminals.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann issued a clear message that there will be no compromise with law and order in Punjab. He stated that cracking down on gangster networks with all force is the government's priority, and that negligence at any level will not be tolerated in this campaign.
Mann directed the officials to strengthen security management in the district, keep a close watch on the activities of gangs and intensify action by launching special drives if necessary, so that a sense of security is maintained among the common people.
Following the suspension, the Home Department will soon appoint a new SSP, who will take charge of law and order in the area. The government says that more such actions are likely in the coming days as the administration works rapidly towards making the state crime-free.
