Amritsar SSP Vigilance suspended over ₹55 crore development tender case

Amritsar (The Uttam Hindu): Amritsar SSP Vigilance Lakhbir Singh has been suspended in connection with a major development tender case worth ₹55 crore. According to information, the action was taken following complaints raised after a construction company and later by a senior IAS officer. The matter is linked to the investigation of a high-value case, where questions were being raised over the probe process. However, no formal order has been officially made public by the government so far.
Lakhbir Singh was appointed as SSP Vigilance in March this year. Notably, he had led the team that arrested Bikram Majithia on June 25, 2025. Within about nine months of his appointment, he has now been suspended on allegations of corruption. Earlier, around two months ago, Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh was also suspended.
According to reports, no development work was carried out despite a ₹55 crore tender being allotted in the posh Ranjit Avenue area of Amritsar. Instead, a large-scale financial irregularity allegedly took place, with crores of rupees being distributed among several individuals. The complaint regarding this matter had reached the government.
Meanwhile, police sources revealed that an FIR has also been registered against a social activist in connection with the case.
