Kapurthala/Sultanpur Lodhi/Bhulatth (The Uttam Hindu)- In view of the increased water level in the Beas river due to continuous rain in the upper hilly areas, the district administration has issued an alert and appealed to the people to move to safer places.


Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Mr. Amit Kumar Panchal said on Sunday that due to heavy rains, the water level of Beas river has risen to 2.35 lakh cusecs, due to which people living in low-lying areas should immediately move to safer places. He also informed that the Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert in Kapurthala district. Apart from this, the water level of Beas river is rising due to heavy rains since last night. Panchal said that saving lives of people is the priority of the administration, so people from the affected areas should come to safer places.


He said that the Army and SDRF teams are continuously evacuating people safely. He also appealed to the people that if any kind of help is required, they should immediately contact the helpline numbers of the district administration. The numbers of the control room of the district administration 62800-49331, 01822-231990 and the flood control room of Sultanpur Lodhi sub-division 01828-222169 are working 24 hours.


The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms at isolated places in Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Mansa, Moga, Patiala, Rupnagar, Sangrur, SBS Nagar, Tarn Taran in the next 3 hours.
