Bhagwant Mann government stands firmly with students fighting for democratic rights at Punjab University: Baltej Pannu

Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has strongly condemned the brutal lathicharge by Chandigarh Police and Haryana Police on peaceful students of Punjab University (PU). The students were protesting peacefully against the dissolution of the PU Senate and demanding fair Senate elections, but the BJP-led administration responded with violence.
In a statement issued to the media, AAP leader Baltej Pannu said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has repeatedly warned that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to take control of Punjab's institutions and political structure through force and deception. He said that the BJP, by abusing the power of the central government, wants to capture every democratic platform, from BBMB to Punjab University. But the people of Punjab will never accept such an attack on their rights and autonomy.
Pannu said that under pressure from the student movement, the previous notification dissolving the Senate was withdrawn within minutes, exposing the BJP's panic and double standards.
Pannu said that the Aam Aadmi Party stands in full solidarity with the protesting students and supports their peaceful struggle for the autonomy and democratic functioning of Punjab University. The Bhagwant Mann-led government has strongly condemned the lathicharge and warned the BJP to stop using coercive tactics against Punjab's students and institutions.
