Big announcement today: Punjab EC to declare dates for District Council and Panchayat Samiti elections

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The dates for the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab are set to be announced today. The State Election Commission has called a press conference regarding this matter. With the announcement, the code of conduct will come into effect across the state tomorrow. It is believed that the elections could be held by December 14th.

District Council and Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab will be announced today, Election Commission will hold a press conference. : Elections for a total of 23 District Councils and 154 Panchayat Samitis are to be held in Punjab. The Rural Development and Panchayati Department has completed all the legal procedures for these elections. From the revision of voter lists to all other processes, all have been completed. This time, Panchayat Samiti and District Council elections in Punjab are being held much behind schedule.

These elections will be held based on the voter lists of January 2025. The Rural Development and Panchayat Department has filed an affidavit in the High Court stating that these elections will be held by December 5. These elections had to be postponed due to the reorganization of blocks and the subsequent floods in Punjab.
