Akali Leader Bikram Majithia Remanded to 14-Day Judicial Custody in DA Case

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Mohali court in connection with a disproportionate assets case. He will be lodged at Nabha Jail, with the next hearing scheduled for July 19.
Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau from his Green Avenue residence in Amritsar on June 25. The agency had initially secured seven days of custody, followed by a four-day extension. During the latest hearing, however, the Vigilance Bureau opted not to seek further remand and allowed judicial custody to begin.
Majithia was presented in court amid tight security. Several Youth Akali Dal (YAD) supporters, led by YAD president Sarabjit Singh Jhinjer, attempted to gather near the court but were stopped by Mohali Police. Outside the court, senior Akali leader and legal counsel Arshdeep Singh Kaler criticized the Vigilance Bureau’s case, calling it “a media trial lacking substantial evidence.” Officials also clarified that the bureau can still seek an additional three-day remand under current legal provisions, if necessary.
