Bomb threat triggers panic in Chandigarh: Several Schools and Punjab Secretariat targeted, Security tightened

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Panic spread across the city on Friday morning after bomb threats were received via email targeting multiple educational institutions and a government building. The threatening message mentioned DPS School, Sant Kabir School, and Vivek High School (Sector-38), along with the Punjab Secretariat, warning of explosions within the next two days.
Upon receiving the information, school authorities immediately alerted the police, following which security agencies swung into action. As a precautionary measure, all school premises were evacuated. Senior police officials, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads reached the locations and conducted thorough searches in the campuses and nearby areas.
Initial investigations have not found any suspicious objects. According to police officials, the situation is currently under control, though security arrangements have been further strengthened as a precaution. Security at the Secretariat complex has also been intensified, with strict checking of visitors.
The police cyber cell is investigating the matter and trying to identify the sender of the email. Authorities have appealed to parents and the public not to believe rumours and to immediately inform the police about any suspicious information.
It is notable that nearly a month ago, around 30 schools in the city had received similar bomb threats via email. At that time as well, extensive search operations were conducted but no suspicious material was found.
Repeated threats of this nature have created concern among parents and school administrations. Police are also reviewing earlier cases to determine whether a single individual or group may be behind these incidents. The administration has clarified that security has been strengthened and strict action will be taken against those spreading rumours.
