Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has appealed to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, to allow a live telecast of his appearance on January 15. Mann said he has been receiving messages from Sikh devotees across the world asking that his presentation and clarification before the Akal Takht be broadcast live on all channels.

The Chief Minister said that, respecting the sentiments of the global Sikh community, he has requested the Jathedar to allow a direct broadcast of his explanation so that the sangat can stay informed, moment by moment, about the financial accounts related to the golak. Mann added that he would appear on January 15 with complete documentation and evidence.

However, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has expressed strong objection to the demand for a live telecast. SGPC member Gurcharan Singh Grewal said the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib must have found sufficient grounds to summon the Chief Minister, following concerns raised by the public.

He said the matter should not be given a political colour and stressed that the documents presented at the Akal Takht would be of historical importance. Grewal added that when appearing before the Akal Takht, no conditions should be imposed, and its sanctity must be respected.
