Cabinet minister Harbhajan Singh ETO lashes out at Centre for not announcing date for PU Senate elections

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Punjab cabinet minister Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO, on Monday, lashed out at BJP led Centre Government for not announcing date for Senate elections of Punjab University (PU), Chandigarh. The minister said that though, the central government has taken a step back by revoking the controversial notification but till now, the date for fresh elections has not been announced. He added that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government will stand by Punjabis especially students to safeguard their interests and no stone will be left unturned to restore the federal status of the university.
Minister Mr. Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the tenure of 91 members of the Senate was expired on October 31, 2024 but the BJP government has not announced any schedule for these elections which is direct attack on democratic structure of the university. He said that the BJP government should respect the democratic traditions of the country, otherwise it will face backlash from every section of the society. He added that the protest against the central government will continue till the announcement of date of Senate elections. He said that their government will also condemn the direct attack of the BJP on federal structure of the university on every platform.
